This lock is a replica of a Roman chest pin tumbler lock. Pin tumbler locks like this one were put on chests in ancient Rome.
Spring-loaded pins prevent bolt from moving. The key lifts the spring-loaded pins of the locked lock. The key can then be used to slide the bolt, after it becomes possible to lift the hinge. Photos 13-16 show lock in the manufacturing process.
